Description:
Coastal 2000 is a partnership between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and coastal states to develop a national coastal monitoring program. This joint effort will permit for the first time regional comparisons of coastal resource conditions. It will also provide a nationwide assessment. Each state uses a compatible, probabilistic design and a common set of environmental indicators for water quality, sediment quality, demersal fish communities, and benthic communities. Each state will independently assess the condition of their coastal resources, yet, these estimates can be aggregated to regional and national levels. The Northeast portion of Coastal 2000 includes states from Delaware to Maine. Sampling began in the summer of 2000.
