Citation:

Description:

Brewer 105 is located in Gaithersburg MD, measuring ultraviolet solar radiation. Irradiance and column ozone are derived from this data. Ultraviolet solar radiation is measured with a Brewer Mark IV, single-monochrometer, spectrophotometer manufactured by SCI-TEC Instruments, Inc. of Saskatoon, SK, Canada. The UV monitoring under EPA's UV-Net program is coordinated with measurement programs of other U.S. Federal agencies through the U.S. Global Change Research Program. Brewer 105 is located on the roof of Building 221 at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at Gaithersburg, Maryland, about 18 meters above ground level. The surrounding area is suburban. With the exception of a 12-story building about 400 meters to the NNE and some trees that slightly exceed the instrument height, the sky is relatively unobstructed in all directions. The Brewer has been recording data at this site since May 1994.
