Citation:

Description:

Brewer 130 is located in Big Bend NP, measuring ultraviolet solar radiation. Irradiance and column ozone are derived from this data. Ultraviolet solar radiation is measured with a Brewer Mark IV, single-monochrometer, spectrophotometer manufactured by SCI-TEC Instruments, Inc. of Saskatoon, SK, Canada. The UV monitoring under EPA's UV-Net program is coordinated with measurement programs of other U.S. Federal agencies through the U.S. Global Change Research Program. Brewer 130 is located about 50 km from the west entrance to the Park and 4 km east of Panther Junction. The Brewer is situated on a concrete pad at ground level. To the NNE is a small building housing the Brewer computer, and, other either side of the building are meteorological towers. Directly to the south of the Brewer are mountains that obstruct the view up to about 15 degrees above the horizon. The Brewer has been recording data at this site since January 1997.
