Martonen, T B., K K. Isaacs, J. D. Schroeter, AND R. Spencer. IN SILLICO LOBAR MODELS OF HUMAN LUNGS FOR TARGETED DELIVERY OF AEROSOLIZED PHARMACEUTICALS. Presented at Respiratory Drug Delivery IX Meeting, Palm Desert, CA, May 25-29,2004.
Description:
The identification of factors affecting the deposition patterns of aerosolized pharmaceuticals has important implications to medicine (e.g., inhalation therapy regimens) and toxicology (e.g., drug testing protocols). Airway morphology is a critical element of the process, influencing flow dynamics within human lungs and the resultant disposition of inhaled particles (1). The in silico lungs described in this work will provide a theoretical basis for analyses of the behavior and fate of inhaled particles.
