CTEPP STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR CONDUCTING STAFF AND PARTICIPANT TRAINING (SOP-2.27).

Impact/Purpose:

The CTEPP study is the largest aggregate exposure study of preschool children (ages 2 to 5 years) conducted in the United States. The CTEPP study was designed in part to fill in critical data gaps on young children’s exposures to pesticides in response to the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) of 1996.

Description:

This SOP describes the method to train project staff and participants to collect various field samples and questionnaire data for the study. The training plan consists of two separate components: project staff training and participant training. Before project activities begin, project staff will undergo training to perform the procedures stated in the CTEPP SOPs. Due to the unique features of the CTEPP study, some key information and samples will be collected by the study participants. The primary adult caregiver (usually the parent) will collect food, urine, and dermal (hand) wipe samples from themselves and their child. In addition, the parent will be trained to fill out the Child Activity Diary for their child. Similar cooperation and assistance is needed from the teachers at the day care centers.
