Description:

Concern about children's environmental health is increasing as newly characterized risks are indentified. Often little data is available to guide policy decisions. Research on children's ambient exposures to environmental contaminants is essential to understand the magnitude and nature of risks to environmental health. However, the study of young children is difficult due to logistical and societal limitations. Because young children have unique developmental needs, and special ethical considerations apply, observational studies of young children differ from those involving adult subjects. We will discuss specific elements to consider when designing and implementing field studies of young children.
