Description:

In 1987 the World Commission on Environment and Development published their report titled Out Common Future addressing sustainable development. The Commission's definition, since widely adopted, was "Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Sustainable development is, of course, not a recent concept. Nations throughout the ages have had to address these issues of harmony between the environment, society and the economy. Sustainable development focuses on improving the quality of life for all citizens without increasing the use of natural resources beyond the capacity of the environment to supply them indefinitely
