NEW YORK HARBOR ESTUARY PROGRAM: TOXICS MONITORING MODELING

Citation:

Impact/Purpose:

The model was developed under the Contaminant Assessment and Reduction Project (CARP), which was aimed at assessing the loadings and ambient levels in water, sediment and biota of list of contaminants. The purpose of this original project was to assess what needs to be done to make the sediments clean enough to dispose of more easily. Now that CARP has been completed, EPA and the states have begun using the data and modeling for TMDL development.

Description:

This activity has resulted in the completion of a toxics model for the New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary that is now being used for developing TMDLs for the Harbor. Chemicals of concern center on metals, PCBs, Dioxin, PAHs and Pesticides.
