The product is a guidance document for the collection of sediment samples with high moisture content and correspondingly low densities, including sediment samples with high organic content (i.e., peat). There is no longer the same need for this guidance; improved alternate methods have been developed. Work on this product has been suspended indefinitely.

Description:

The guidance document will detail the measures needed to collect and analyze soils/sediments from flood plains, wetlands, bogs, rivers, and streams that are impacted by high moisture content. High moisture in the above matrices can manifest itself as increased detection limits and may impact the laboratory's ability to efficiently extract and analyze the contaminants of interest. The guidance will outline measures that need to be taken in the field to collect, de-water, and homogenize sediments. The guidance will detail the laboratory sample preparation techniques that remove moisture, and the extraction/analytical techniques that will meet the project quality objectives for the low level quantitation of the contaminants of interest.
