PORTNEUF VALLEY, IDAHO PM-10 DISPERSION MODEL INCLUDING SECONDARY CHEMICAL FORMATION
Impact/Purpose:
SIP Attainment Demonstration
Description:
A dispersion modeling effort for the Portneuf Valley, Pocatello, Idaho PM-10 attainment demonstration is underway. The model will treat the secondary chemical formation process, primarily sulfate and nitrate formation under both the aqueous and gas phases. The model will simulate the impacts of a highly complex terrain and resolving small-scale localized flow patterns and differential heating effects. It will characterize plume dispersions from a number of buoyant emission points located in a closely spaced industrial complex and characterize emissions from low-level fugitives such as wood stoves and road dust emissions. The model will simulate very stagnant atmospheric conditions characterized by variable low wind speeds (often less than 1 m/s), shallow mixing height and foggy/humid air and simulate a multi-day episodic event when a significant incremental accumulation and build-up of pollution occurs.
