Description:
EPA will be working with the New Haven Department of Health to collect data and create an inventory of toxic air pollutants in the New Haven area. Under section 112 of the Clean Air Act, EPA and cities and states are required to reduce cancer and non-cancer health risks in urban areas. Since 1996, EPA has been working with states and local governments to create inventories of toxics air emissions in every state. Much of the information currently included in the inventories is based on broad estimates. However, even with these estimates, according to EPA=s national toxics assessment (NATA), people living and working in New Haven have elevated risks from several hazardous air pollutants. This inventory effort will help to refine the inventory for future risk assessment activities, including computer modeling, at both the state and local
