NATIONAL AIR TOXICS PILOT MONITORING AND DATA ANALYSIS PROJECT

Impact/Purpose:

Compile Toxics monitoring data for extrapolation to determine the need for a national network.

Description:

Ten cities (Detroit, Providence, San Juan, Keeney Knob WV, Tampa, Grand Junction, Rio Rancho NM, Cedar Rapids, San Jacinto and Seattle) conducted 1/6 and 1/12 monitoring for 18 out of the 33 Urban HAP toxic pollutants through ten, EPA grants. Monitoring was completed in July 2002. Data was compiled and analyzed via a data analysis grant through LADCO to determine variability among concentrations nationwide, and to determine any need for a national toxics network. Program is overseen by a Steering Committee comprised of EPA, state, and local officials. This product will not be peer reviewed (see PR Record). A Technical Assistance Document is being updated for State monitoring personnel to use as guidance for the expected National Network. This draft revision was distributed for stakeholder review and input in Oct / Nov 2002.
