GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) APPLIED TO UNDERSTANDING ISSUES IN THE GULF OF MEXICO ECOSYSTEM
Impact/Purpose:
To enable Jackson State U. to work with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (DMR) in development of GIS products that will allow DMR to track permits for regualted in-water activities on the Mississippi Gulf coast, and to work with communities in the lower Mississippi River Basin in developing GIS products that help understand impacts of non-point sources of nutrients on water quality and hypoxia in coastal waters.
Description:
This project provides an Environmental Analysis and Information Center to serve the Mississippi Coastal Community, Mississippi State agencies such as the Mississippi Dept. of Marine Resources, and local communities in the lower Mississippi River Basin. The Center provides GIS and information products that address environmental problems in Mississippi and the lower Mississippi River Basin.
