Impact/Purpose:
This project will provide information on asthma interventions, for both clinical and environmental interventions to families in the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. This data will be useful to compare some important environmental exposures with those for groups whose environmental asthma has been more thoroughly studied.
Description:
Some preliminary asthma prevalence data has been obtained regarding the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, a Native American nation located here in New York State, indicating a rise in the prevalence of asthma in this population over the past decade, similar to the nation at large. This money will support a questionnaire to a small cohort of households, half with and without asthmatics, and the collection of dust from their households. The dust will be analyzed for the standard dust mite allergens and a general mold count.
