COMPILATON OF REPORT AND DATA SUPPORTING THE EPA STUDY, "ASIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER SEAFOOD CONSUMPTION STUDY IN KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON".

Impact/Purpose:

This contract covers preparation of a technical user's guide to enable user-friendly access to the raw data. In addition, using the EPA project reports and additional published literature, if needed, a comprehensive journal-style report will be provided.

Description:

In 1996 and 1999, EPA published the results of a community-centered approach for documenting the seafood consumption patterns of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (API) in the King County area of Washington state. Summary statistics were included in the project reports, but not the raw data. To facilitate outreach, education and development of appropriate environmental strategies to address seafood contamination issues, API communities, as well as environmental, public health and other programs serving API communities need a concise comprehensive report of this work as well as the raw data. For instance, the raw data are needed to utilize the data for API-protective standards, permits and site cleanups ... or, if needed, for developing appropriate consumption advisories. The tasks described in this work assignment are designed to provide an electronic resource containing the raw data and technical guide, as well as a concise report which can be published in a scientific peer-review venue. This work also helps to implement the Agency's Asian American and Pacific Islander Initiative in Region 10 by facilitating access to environmental information which directly affects APIs.
