Impact/Purpose:

(1) Establish relationships between levels of pesticides in homes and the type of agricultural crops) the families work.

(2) Assist farmworkers and theier families education about the health effects of over exposure to pesticides and how to mitigate against over exposure.

Description:

CREATE (Creating Roads to Empowerent and Advancement through Education) has received an EJ Small Grant to implement a plan of reseaarch and evaluation of specific health outcomes associated with pesticide exposure in both workers and their children by identifying specific pesticide residues and measuring biomarkers of pesticide exposure and markers of neurobehavioral health effects. The health and dietary habits of family members will be surveyed and CREATE will determine the best ways to educate families to modify their cleaning and protection practices so as to minimize the dangers of exposure and to encourage them to participate in environmental justice processes as follows.
