EPA GEOBOOK

Impact/Purpose:

The objective of the EPA GeoBook is to provide information from the the Southeastern Ecological Framework Project in a simple easy to use format. The intended audience is someone who is involved with ecosystem or watershed protection and needs access to sophisticated GIS data but does not have the training or experience to use more complicated GIS software.

Description:

The EPA GeoBook is a computer application that resembles a notebook with pages of information on the Southeastern Ecological Framework, a powerpoint presentation, a short video and a map viewer. It was developed to forge partnerships with local, state and federal partners to work together to protect ecological connectivity for users who need spatial information but without the overhead of learning complicated GIS software. Links to internet resources are imbedded in the information about the GIS data layers. Map links to high resolution aerial photography and EPA's Enviromapper web site are provided. The Geobook is a intermediate product that will eventually evolve into a web based application that integrates with the Office of Environmental Information's strategy of providing desktop access to EPA's databases in a user friendly environment.
