WELL IMPACT: A CONTAMINANT FATE AND TRANSPORT MODEL

Impact/Purpose:

Well Impact is an analytical screening and bounding model for estimating potential impacts to pumping wells from subsurface sources of contamination. Well impact combines the analytic overlay model for source dissolution and the CapZone model for ground water flow to a pumping well. A beta version is currently undergoing review and model development is continuing.

Description:

A chemical reactor analogy is used to derive analytical solutions for contaminant source dissolution in ground water (analytic overlay model). This allows the user to develop a source function based on a conceptual site model. The resulting analytical source function can then be overlaid onto an analytical solution for ground water flow to a pumping well to create a completely analytical solution for contaminant fate and transport to a pumping well. The source model can also be used with other ground water flow models. Matt Small, Hydrogeologist, R.G., M.Eng.
