BAIRD TRACT WETLAND HYDROPERIOD RESTORATION PROJECT

Impact/Purpose:

Environmental, regulatory, and other officials involved in wetland restoration will use this as a model for restoration efforts in similar habitats.

Description:

The Baird Tract is located in Sumter County, Florida (northeast of Tampa), within the Withlacoochee State Forest and includes areas of the Withlacoochee and Green Swamp drainage basins. Restoration includes plugging ditches, installing additional culverts and geoweb crossings, restoring drainage patterns and extending wetland hydroperiods. These efforts will return the hydrology to more normal patterns, allowing for sheet flow as opposed to channelization.
