This paper is concerned with a modified, nondimensional form of the parallel fracture, contaminant transport model of Sudicky and Frind (1982). The modifications include the boundary condition at the fracture wall, expressed by a parameter , and the power-law relationship between the rock matrix tortuosity and its effective porosity, . Through the use of the Bromwich Inversion Integral and residue calculus, exact solutions are obtained for concentrations in the fracture and the rock matrix in the form of a single, infinite integral, which is easy to evaluate and manipulate. Three systems are considered: (1) a decaying contaminant ( > 0) in a fractured rock with > 0, (2) a nondecaying contaminant ( = 0) in a fractured rock with > 0, and (3) a decaying or nondecaying contaminant ( > 0) in a fractured rock with = 0. Even though the modified Sudicky-Frind model is rather simplistic and should only be used as a screening tool, the results derived from the model show the importance of knowing the location and type of contaminant source, the contaminant's deterioration properties, its adsorption properties, and the effective porosity of the rock matrix.
