Description:
In this chapter, the causes of 1010 waterborne outbreaks reported in the United States during the period of 1971 to 2000 are reviewed. Most (74%) of the outbreaks were associated with contaminated drinking water; 648 outbreaks were reported in public drinking water systems, and 103 were reported in individual water systems. An additional 259 (26%) outbreaks were associated with water recreation, primarily swimming.
