Description:
The USEPA has developed a technology transfer handbook for the EMPACt BirdCast bird migration monitoring project. The document is essentially a "How-To" Handbook that addresses the planning and implementation steps that were needed to develop, operate and maintain a program similar to that implemented for the BirdCast project. The handbook provides the following information: 1) how to obtain and interpret NEXRAD weather radar images used by the BirdCast project 2) how the project provides real-time bird migration information via their own and Cornell University/Audubon BirdSource's website, 3) how the project operates and maintains its acoustic data collection system, 4) how the project operates and maintains its information management system, 5) how the project established and maintains an education and outreach program through their website and other educational/outreach materails, and 6) techniques that were used to develop their monitoring and QA/QC plans.
