This document emphasizes the local stakeholder's role in addressing community-wide environmental issues, especially with respect to the preferred "green" community development. The document is intended to help communities made decisions about alternative land uses and landscape futures. It examines the issues involved in the use of a Geographic Information System (GIS) to enable and enhance this process. The document is intended to empower community members to make environmentally sound decisions about future programs and community planning toward sustainable growth and development. It contains a brief description of the Community Based Environmental Protection approach to planning. It also describes some of the available tools for environmental visioning.
