OBSERVATIONS ON ENGINEERING ASPECTS OF THE BRENTWOOD POSTAL FACILITY FUMIGATION

Citation:

Martin*, G B. AND F T. Princiotta*. OBSERVATIONS ON ENGINEERING ASPECTS OF THE BRENTWOOD POSTAL FACILITY FUMIGATION. Presented at Indoor Air Quality Problems and Engineering Solutions Symposium, RTP, NC, 21-23 July 2003.

Description:

The paper provides a summary of the four tests of the chlorine dioxide (ClO2) generation and scrubbing system at the 14,000,000 cubic foot Brentwood postal facility in Washington, DC, which had been contaminated with anthrax spores contained in a letter addressed to Senator Thomas Daschle. Two postal employees died of inhalation anthrax. In spite of early cleansing operations that focused on the specific areas of contamination, anthrax was found to have spread throughout building, so the U.S. Postal Service decided to fumigate the entire building with ClO2 to inactivate the remaining spores.
