LONG TERM VERIFICATION OF DUST SUPPRESSION PERFORMANCE

Description:

The paper focuses on the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program and provides data from a 3-month test as an example of the Program's output. Research Triangle Institute and its subcontractor, Midwest Research Institute, are verifying the performance of dust suppression and soil stabilization products as part of the Air Pollution Control Technology Verification Center, a test management center of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ETV Program. The verification protocol for these products includes field testing plus toxicological and environmental laboratory measurements. Input to and review of the protocol were provided by a technical panel of knowledgeable and interested stakeholders representing vendors, users, and government (regulators and transportation) with interest in dust control. A 3-month test of seven products was conducted at Fort Leonard Wood, MO in the fall of 2001, and emission control results are presented as an example of the ETV Program's output. There are year-long tests currently underway at Fort Leonard Wood and in Maricopa County, AZ.
