Description:
The paper describes an effort to collect updated data and determine if changes are needed to AP-42, a document that provides emission factors characterizing landfill gas (LFG) emissions from sites with and without LFG controls. The work underway includes the types of measurement to be conducted, the detection limits, and plans for any potential updates to AP-42, which summarizes available data that have been collected from sites across the U.S. These emission factors are used to develop state emission inventories and to establish requirements in response to Clean Air Act regulations, including addressing residual risk as part of the Urban Air Toxics Strategy. Questions have been raised regarding the accuracy of these emission factors given the design and operational changes that have occurred over the last decade.
