Anon. ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY VERIFICATION REPORT, FRANCE COMPRESSOR PRODUCTS EMISSIONS PACKING, PHASE I REPORT. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/R-99/116.

Description:

The report presents results of a Phase I test of emissions packing technology offered by France Compressor Products which is designed to reduce methane leaks from compressor rod packing when a compressor is in a standby and pressurized state. This Phase I test was executed between July 16 and July 30, 1999. Performance tests were carried out at a compressor station operated by ANR Pipeline Company of Detroit, MI, on two engines (501 and 502), each with two compressor units. The France packing was installed on one rod of each engine, serving as test rods, and standard packing was left on the remaining rod of each engine to serve as control rods against which France packing performance could be compared. The control rods were outfitted with new seals at the time the France packing was installed to eliminate seal wear as a factor in performence measurements. The evaluation focused on two shutdown procedures that represent the most common approaches to compressor shutdown: pressurized during idle and depressurized during idle. The goals of the test were to verify initial gas savings for primary baseline conditions and to document initial cost and installation requirements.
