Description:

This paper will present an on-going development of an integrated decision support framework (IDSF) for cost-effective placement of best management practices (BMPs) for managing wet weather flows (WWF) in urban watersheds. This decision tool will facilitate the selection and placement of BMPs at strategic locations in mixed land use urban watersheds based on integrated data collection and hydrologic, hydraulic, and water-quality modeling to achieve the desired water-quality objectives. The IDSF will consist of three key components: 1) a modeling system that integrates local data sets to derive hydology/hydrulics and polllutant loading, 2) a BMP module that simulates hydrology/hydraulics and pollutant loadings for developing pollutant removal, and 3) an analysis/optimization component that combines information on cost and performance for assessment and comparison of BMP alternatives. An essential feature of the IDSF is a simplified BMP process simulation and system optimization. The present phase of IDSF development will not include the receiving water modeling component and BMP optimization engine. These enhancements will be made in subsequent phases.
