Becker**, T AND M A. Gonzalez*. HOMOGENEOUS CATALYSTS FOR THE PARTIAL-OXYGENATION OF SATURATED HYDROCARBONS WITH HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. Presented at American Chemical Society 223nd National Meeting, Orlando, FL, 4/11-17/2002.

Description:

The development of catalysts with the capacity to activate green oxidants, such as hydrogen peroxide and molecular oxygen, can offer an environmentally sound pathway for hydrocarbon oxidation. Furthermore, by including the concepts of green chemistry and pollution prevention one can further enhance the benign nature of an oxidation reaction. This research has lead to the development of a series of robust catalysts capable of oxidizing hydrocarbons with hydrogen peroxide under relatively mild conditions while maintaining environmental stewardship. Research to be presented will detail the design and synthesis of a series of homogeneous complexes, which when reacted with hydrogen peroxide serve as catalysts for the activation and subsequent oxidation of alkanes. Additionally, data from oxidation experiments for the selective partial-oxidation of C2 to C6 linear, branched, and cyclic hydrocarbons will be presented.
