Citation:

Petersen*, D. ORGANIZATIONAL RISK COMMUNICATION. Presented at Workshop on Risk Communication as a Risk Management Tool, Cincinnati, OH, 8/16/2000.

Description:

Ris communication tools in organizations differs in several ways from many of tools and techniques developed for public meetings. The traditional view of risk communication seeks to manage the public outrage ssociated with site-based issues. Organizational risk communication seeks to preemptively reduce risks of communities through changing public exposures to toxicants i the environment. Communication follows predictable paths and steps that are well used in the advertising industry. Adapting the techniques of Madison Avenue to risk communication will be discussed. Examples will be shown that highlight the data visualization and data interpretive tools being developed by the EPA office of research and development's risk communication initiative.
