Description:
Arsenic is known to be a hazardous contaminant in drinking water. The presence of arsenic in water supplies has been linked to arsenical dermatosis and skin cancer . Zeolites are well known for their ion exchange capacities. In the present work, the potential use of a variety of zeolites for removal of arsenic from water has been examined at roon temperature. A variety of synthetic zeolites have been evaluated before and after modification of the exchange cation. Experiments have been conducted to examine the extent of arsenic removal as a function of pH and the kinetics of the reaction. The main objective of this research is to identify the most effective zeolite that remains active over a wide range of pH.
