Description:

A precise ion chromatography method has been developed for the determination of chloride in high ionic strength ammonium acetate solutions (10-5 M-5 M) using sodium carbonate/sodium bicarbonate as eluent. Negative ion electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry was used for quantitation without electronic suppression. The retention time for chloride was 5.6 min. Linearity was obtained up to a concentration level of 1000 mg/L chloride when bromide was used as an internal standard. A detection limit as low as 62.5 ug/L (100 ul injection, 1.5 ml/min flow rate, and 1:44 split ratio) was achieved.
