Citation:

Cabezas*, H C. AND M. R. Green. PARIS II: DESIGNING GREENER SOLVENTS. Presented at AICHE Spring Symposium, New Jersey and North Jersey Sections, 5/12/2000.

Description:

PARIS II (the program for assisting the replacement of industrial solvents, version II), developed at the USEPA, is a unique software tool that can be used for customizing the design of replacement solvents and for the formulation of new solvents. This program helps users avoid undesirable impacts on the workplace or the environment by identifying appropriate chemicals that can serve as effective solvents. The theoretical basis for PARIS II includes the latest techniques for predicting solvent and mixture properties. An extensive solvent database utilizing the DIPPR Pure Component Data Compilation, UNIFAC and environmental, health and safety data from a veriety of other sources is included in th program. The recommended formulations with PARIS II designs are always given in a ranked order which can be compared with the user's specific requirements. PARIS II is unique for its ability to design mixtures when no single compound can replace an existing solvent. PARIS II progam is maintained and distributed under a cooperative research agreement between USEPA and TDS.
