WATER TREATMENT PROBLEMS AND CONSEQUENCES

Citation:

Fox*, K R. WATER TREATMENT PROBLEMS AND CONSEQUENCES. Presented at KY-TN Section AWWA Ann Meeting, Nashville, TN, 10/1-4/2000.

Description:

In recent years the emphasis on removing microbes from drinking water has increased. This increased concern was brought about partly by documented waterborne disease outbreaks in the US. Cryptosporidium concerns were elevated after the cryptosporodiosis outbreak in Milwaukee. Other outbreaks from E. coli and salmonella were not as large as the Milwaukee outbreak, but still have created concern about these organisms. This talk will focus on water tratment problems that have occurred recently. Some of these problems have led to large numbers of waterborne disease while others did not. Case studies will be presented to emphasize the need for diligent operation of water treatment systems.
