POTLATCH RIVER, LATAH, CLEARWATER, AND NEZ PERCE COUNTIES, IDAHO - PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION REPORT, 1994

Description:

The Latah Soil and Water Conservation District requested assistance from the Soil Conservation Service in the development of appropriate criteria for prioritizing subwatersheds in the Potlatch River Basin, Idaho (17060306) for the implementation of a long term watershed treatment effort focused on the future management, enhancement, and restoration of anadromous and resident fisheries as well as the overall health of the watershed. The Conservation District was also interested in developing a list of short term treatment strategies, focusing again on anadromous and resident fisheries, which could be implemented in a 1-2 year time frame. The Conservation District invited a large number of local, state, and federal agencies, special interest groups, agricultural operators, and private industrial forest land managers to participate in the preliminary investigation process. A consensus planning approach was used to identify and develop a problem statement, list the short term treatment options, and select appropriate subwatershed prioritization criteria for a long term planning and implementation effort. This report contains 10 short term treatment strategies and criteria for the prioritization of subwatersheds for future planning and implementation activities. 1994.
