Description:
Between 350,000 and 400,000 tons of annual NOx emissions have been eliminated as a result of Phase I of the Acid Rain NOx Program. As expected. the utilities have chosen emissions averaging as the primary compliance option. This reflects that, in general, NO x reductions have been achieved at units where its was technically easier and/or more cost-effective to do so. As evidenced by the very few AELs in use thus far, NOx control technologies at affected sources appear to be operating reliably. Since this program does not set a cap on NOx emissions in tons. the certainty and pattern of NOx reductions (tons) depend on the utilization of sources.
