SNAKE AND CLEARWATER RIVERS, PRESENT AND POST-IMPOUNDMENT WATER QUALITY CONDITIONS, 1964

Description:

This report presents information on present water quality conditions in the Snake and Clearwater Rivers (17060107, 17060103, 17060306) in the vicinity of Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington. It discusses how changes in the streams characteristics resulting from the construction of the proposed Lower Granite Lock and Dam Project by the Corps of Engineers will affect the water quality and waste disposal problems of that area. The first phase of the study was initiated in March 1963 and consisted of the collection and analysis of such data on water quality and domestic and industrial wastes that were available in the files of the State water pollution control agencies of Idaho and Washington. A field study was conducted in July and August 1963 to identify water uses, waste sources, points of waste discharge, diffusion patterns, stream hydraulics, deoxygenation and reaeration constants, and the physical and sanitary quality of the receiving waters. The quality of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers was in a generally satisfactory condition from a chemical standpoint at the time of this study. Burns, G.L. 1970. Working Paper No 74.
