HANGMEN CREEK, BENEWAH COUNTY, IDAHO - POST BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IMPLEMENTATION STUDY, 1989-1990

Description:

A study completed in 1982 established the baseline water quality status of Hangman Creek, Idaho (17010306) and recommended land management changes for the watershed. The main objective of this follow-up study was to evaluate differences in water quality for the 1981-1982 baseline study and the 1989-1990 post-best management practices implementation study. Suspended sediment concentrations in the Upper Hangman Creek watershed have decreased. Lolo Creek, Andrews Springs Creek, State Park tributary, and the Clay Pit tributary show and increase in suspended sediment concentrations. Average total phosphorus concentrations in 1989-1990 were 19-75% less than those registered in 1981-1982. Inorganic nitrogen concentrations increased at most of the stations. State fecal coliform standards were not exceeded at any of the sample stations. Dissolved oxygen and temperature levels were in compliance with accepted standards in the follow-up study.
