ROCK CREEK, IDAHO WATER QUALITY STATUS REPORT, 1970-1984

Description:

The study was designed to determine the characteristics and amounts of industrial and municipal wastes discharged to Rock Creek, Idaho (17040212) and subsequently into the Snake River and to evaluate the effects of these wastes on the biota and water quality of Rock Creek. Industrial sources include: The Amalgamate Sugar Company, Independent Meat Company, Twin Falls State Fish Hatchery, Idaho Frozen Food, Inc., Colonial Concrete, Inc., Ready-to-Pour, and Canyon Trout Farm, Inc. The report concluded that Rock Creek is highly polluted. Changes in pH, high temperature, high concentrations of BOD5 and nutrients along with high coliform densities are major factors influencing the poor condition of the creek. It appears that Rock Creek will improve significantly when the following occur: some of the major industries are connected with and discharging to the Twin Falls Sewage Treatment Plant; the remaining industries eliminate their discharges to Rock Creek or meet EPA discharge requirements; and flows from confined livestock operations and agriculture are eliminated or reduced.
