NON POINT SOURCE BASIN STATUS EVALUATION, LOWER SNAKE RIVER BASIN, IDAHO, JULY 1976

Description:

Region 10 has developed a nonpoint source assessment approach to assist EPA planners, land agencies, and state and local agencies in identifying probable nonpoint sources and determining their effect upon the fishable-swimmable aspect of Regional streams and rivers. Generally the approach is to determine the biological, recreational, and water quality status of regional streams and to display each status on color-coded STORET basin maps. This information is to be related to land use and land ownership (also on basin maps) as well as other factors such as hydromodification, river flows, mining activities, and point source discharge. All this information is then systematically organized on a summary table which can be easily used. This report contains the following information for the Lower Snake River Basin (1706): flow chart showing the phased assessment procedure; 5 slides of the maps used in the evaluation; and a summary table for the basin, including a detailed description of information on the table and a basin point source discharge listing by subbasin and river mile. Surveillance and Analysis Division, Water Surveillance and Investigation Section, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 10, Seattle, WA. July 1976.
