BACTERIOLOGY AND ALGAL ASSAYS, LOWER SNAKE RIVER RESERVOIRS, IDAHO AND WASHINGTON, 1977

Description:

The purpose of this portion of the study is to determine 1) the overall water quality of the impoundment area, and 2) to determine the effect of impoundment on bacterial water quality. Data from the pre-impoundment study indicated that the Snake and Clearwater Rivers (17060103) were at times of poor bacterial quality and exceeded standards which allowed primary contact recreation. With few exceptions, seasonal fluctuation of bacterial counts in 1975 and 1976 were characterized by peaks in summer months and reduced counts during the remainder of the year. Total coliforms, fecal coliforms, and fecal streptococci generally followed the same pattern in terms of rise and fall indicating commonality of causes for changes in the counts. Lingg, A.J.
