WATER QUALITY INVESTIGATIONS OF SNAKE RIVER AND PRINCIPAL TRIBUTARIES FROM WALTERS FERRY TO WEISER, IDAHO. 1971

Description:

Stream surveys conducted from 18 October to 10 November 1971 revealed that water upstream of the Boise River was relatively unpolluted, however, bacterial standards were violated. In the reach of the Snake River between the mouth of the Boise River and Weiser (170501), gross violations of the Idaho and Oregon Water Quality Standards were documented. Tributaries evaluated included Indian Creek, from upstream Nampa to the Boise River; the Boise River, from upstream of Boise to its mouth; and the Payette River, from upstream of Emmett to its mouth. 6 municipal and 6 industrial waste sources were investigated. Chemical analyses included BOD, COD, TOC, and nutrients. Periodic measurements were made for pH, temperature, conductivity, and chlorine residual (effluent only). Grab samples were collected for bacteriological analyses. Industry/government investigations included: Amalgamated Sugar Company, Nyssa, OR; ORE-IDA Foods, Inc.; wastewater treatment plant, City of Ontario; Cities of Weiser and Payette, ID treatment plants; Armour Meat Packing Company; Nampa municipal wastewater treatment plant; Boise municipal wastewater treatment plant; Caldwell WTP; J.R. Simplot Company; Garden City and Meridian MWTPs; Triangle Dairy; Boise-Cascade Corporation. EPA Office of Enforcement. February 1973.
