ROCK CREEK RURAL CLEAN WATER PROGRAM, COMPREHENSIVE WATER QUALITY MONITORING, ANNUAL REPORT, 1988.

Description:

Water quality monitoring for the Rock Creek (17040212) rural clean water program was initiated by the ID Department of health and Welfare, Division of Environment in 1981. The results to date suggest that Best Management Practices (BMPs) implemented in the project area have improved water quality in Rock Creek and have significantly reduced sediment and other pollutants to the agricultural drains studied. 48% of the stream reaches in the project have substantial stream bank erosion problems. Fish populations have increased since the beginning of the project. An analysis of groundwater in the Rock Creek watershed was begun. Tunnel drains were sampled for nutrients, sediment, minerals, pesticides, and field parameters. The Harrington Fork fire area was monitored during the spring of 1988, then after a major storm event in late June, which caused a large amount of sediment to be deposited in Rock Creek. Substrate dissolved oxygen samplers were added to all Rock Creek sample stations in Sep 88 to measure dissolved oxygen in the gravels where trout eggs and fry would be found. A creel census was started during fall 1988 to help relate fishing pressure to population data. Author: William H.
