ROCK CREEK RURAL CLEAN WATER PROGRAM, 1988 ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT

Description:

Implementation of the Rock Creek (17040212) rural clean water program began in 1980, following a Section 208 planning study. Contracting phases concluded on September 30, 1986. Best Management Practices (BMP) implementation phase began in 1980. As of 1 Oct 88, 38% of the contracted BMPs remain to be implemented. There was a 219% increase from FY 1987 in planning and implementing conservation tillage. The DEQ continued water quality monitoring on Rock Creek for the seventh year. Improved water quality is being seen as the BMPs are implemented. Studies begun in 1988: Ground water; Effects of the Harrington Fork fire; Creel census; and Comparison of erosion and sediment loss from conventionally tilled and reduced tilled plots. $169,000 was paid out to landowners or operators for installing BMPs. Report contains progress reports from the Soil Conservation Service, Soil Conservation Districts, Department of Environmental Quality, Agricultural Research Service, and Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. The report also contains the Rock Creek Bibliography of water quality related publications through 1988. 91 pp.
