Description:

A retrospective analysis of DDT dynamics subsequent to the imposition of a ban on DDT use in 1969 was conducted for Lakes Michigan and Superior. Trends in the available data indicate that DDT levels in both lakes declined at greater rates than were expected on the basis of hydraulic detention times and the degradation rate for DDT in the environment. Results for apparent net particulate settling velocities for DDT were consistent with analogous results for phosphorus, phytoplankton, and plutonium from independent studies.
