Description:
Extraction of aluminum-anodizing sludges with sulfuric acid was examined to determine the potential for production of commercial-strength solutions of aluminum sulfate, that is liquid alum. The research established kinetic and stoichiometric relationships and evaluates product quality. Detailed material-balance data were collected to monitor the progress and extent of extractions. The production of a commercial-strength liquid alum was feasible. Issues relative to product quality indicate that segregation of certain metal containing wastes may be required for selected aluminum-finishing wastes.
