Description:

This report presents a multimedia (air, liquid and solid wastes) environmental assessment of the domestic mineral mining industry. The primary objective of the study was to identify the major pollution problems associated with the industry. A secondary objective was to define research and development needs for adequate control of air pollutants and liquid and solid wastes connected with mineral mining. This study provides the EPA with (1) an initial data base on the type and quantity of wastes generated and the treatment and disposal techniques now applied for their control; (2) a data base for technical assistance activities; and (3) the necessary background information to implement research and development programs, to document effective pollution control techniques, and to fill gaps in the data base.
