Description:

table 5 isotopes of 5042 in precipitation and stream solutions in a northern hardwoods watershed (Bear Brooks Watershed, Maine) were examined to determine sources of stream S042- and to identify watershed processes that may affect atmospherically deposited S042 prior to reaching the streams. imilarity among temporal patterns in o34S of precipitation and stream S042 (range: +3.4 to +9.4 0/00) and [S042-marine/SO42 total] of stream S042- (5 to 10%) indicate that the o34S vales of stream S042- are controlled principally by precipitation. ack of correlation between o34s of stream S042- and stream [S042], elevational position, and stream discharge supports the interpretation that fractionation of stable S isotopes within the watershed appears to have, at most, a minor influence on o34S of stream S042.
