Description:

The report summarizes the second year's effort under EPA Contract 68-02-3127. The objective of the program is to conduct field evaluations of the distributed mixing burner (DMB) on two industrial size boilers. The DMB concept provides for controlled mixing of coal with combustion air to minimize NOx emissions emissions, while maintaining an overall oxidizing environment in the furnace to minimize slagging and corrosion. Major accomplishments in 1980 included preparation of a measurements protocol that specifies all measurements to be made during the program, baseline tests of the initial host boiler, and initial tests of a prototype DMB designed for the host boiler.
