Description:
This article describes EPA's current approach to the management of ocean disposal. The physical and biological characterization of a proposed site is used to gauge the likelihood of exposure of a marine resource to a waste of given characteristics. After determination of the effects of the waste component(s) on the resource(s), a 'Hazard Assessment' can be made. Trial applications of this approach are described.
